What is Chanukah?
Chanukah, also known as the Festival of Lights, celebrates freedom and the Maccabees’ victory over Syria’s armies in 165 B.C.E.
We celebrate by lighting candles on the menorah for eight nights with the shamash (helper candle), eating fried foods like latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly-filled donuts), and gelt (chocolate coins), and playing with a dreidel.
