2024 Scholarship Opportunities

Jewish Long Beach's Board of Directors are pleased to announce a new pilot Scholarship opportunity, that will evolve with the growing needs of our community. Please read the criteria listed on the application related to the three different scholarship opportunities that are available, as well as an introduction of a fourth opportunity. Scholarship Fund Eligibility requires parents/guardians living in Jewish Long Beach's catchment area of Greater Long Beach & West Orange County

The maximum award per participant is $1,000, however, this is subject to change depending on the number of applicants this year. The scholarship award is contingent upon confirmation of the non-profit status of the organization and the applicant's enrollment in the program they wish to attend. All applications must be turned in by Monday, April 29th.

Robert Baldwin Memorial Fund

The Robert Baldwin Memorial Fund at the Jewish Community Foundation was established to promote Jewish continuity by connecting our teens to Israel through organized peer trips, community trips, and educational programs. Eligible participants (ages 13-30) include those who are going on a trip to Israel sponsored by an approved non-profit organization including volunteer, study abroad, and Birthright.

Rabbi Laibson Campership Fund

The Rabbi Laibson Campership Fund was established to promote Jewish continuity through connecting local children with opportunities to go to overnight Jewish summer camp. For eligible first-time applicants, a scholarship of up to $1,000 may be awarded. For eligible second time applicants, a scholarship of up to $500 may be awarded.

Jewish Long Beach Scholarship Fund

The Jewish Long Beach Scholarship Fund is a pilot program beginning in 2024, created to fund Jewish education, experience, and leadership opportunities for youth up to age 19. Examples include Jewish day schools, Jewish camps, leadership training programs, and unique Jewish experiences for Youth.

1. Review the requirements for the scholarship that fits your interest.

The funding for these scholarships has been made possible by the community’s generous support for Jewish Long Beach, specifically:

 

  • Robert Baldwin & Family, whose bequest funds local youth & young adults to travel, study, and experience Israel.
  • Rabbi Laibson, whose fund helps local youth attend Jewish sleepaway camp. This fund has also been supported by the board of Congregation Shir Chadash.
  • Jewish Long Beach’s Board of Directors, whose allocation for scholarship funding for local youth to participate in Jewish life, from day schools, camp, to leadership training.
