Above & Beyond is a Jewish Federation’s Men’s Philanthropy Annual Community Campaign event. The evening brings together men from all over the community to celebrate the power we have to care for the vulnerable, to be committed to the survival of the Jewish people, to invest in the future of our children, and to rescue those in need no matter where they live or how they worship. The evening is also an opportunity to honor local men who go above and beyond in support, and leadership, throughout our community and are nominated by their agencies and synagogues.
Above & Beyond 2018 took place at the Pub at Fiddlers Green at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, CA.
This year's distinguished speaker was CAPT Jon Kurtz, USN (Ret) Former Commanding Officer, Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach (2006-2009). Serving for 28 years in numerous ships and shore stations. He had the privilege of serving four tours as a commanding officer, including: a mine countermeasures ship homeported in Sasebo, Japan; the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center in Panama City Beach, FL; Naval Magazine Indian Island Washington; and finally Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. Currently he and his wife, Gila, co-founded their business, Dog is Good, a lifestyle brand for dog lovers, found in thousands of store-fronts all over the US and internationally. They are based in Los Alamitos, CA.
